So I'm finally finishing up Season 2 of "The Wire". Yeah I know I'm totally behind the times and reliving 2003, which I don't even remember really. But it's all good, because I FINISHED "The Sopranos". Wow that last episode was totally lame. So underwhelming and did nothing to tie up the last season, which was on the whole a fairly strong season with many of our favorite characters iced or supposedly killed in car crashes. But on the whole, it cleared up my Netflix queue for lighter fare like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" (ah, so un-PC, it is so deliciously lovely!) or "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (the dorkette in me is so happy and clapping her hands in joy) and (yes) move on to Season 3 of The Wire. It's a good time to start watching TV shows, because there's eff all movies to watch these days. Let's see...no, I see nothing except Let the Right One In, a little awesome Swedish vampire flix highly recommended by Pajiba and Rotten Tomatoes (both the film authorities that I trust). It's playing at Landmark Theatres here in SF and will be back on rotation this month. What else, a-ha! Bigger, Faster, Stronger, which is about steroid use, sounds especially intriguing given my last blog about recreational drug use. I totally advocate for using steriods, especially the nasal kind because it helps clear out a lot of mucus and allergy causing crap. Although it is cold now and my allergies have gone away, I still wake up with the sniffles thanks to the dampness. I probably should move into some room enclosed in a hypo-allergenic bubble. Or move back to NYC (I had no allergies there, but did get colds and stuff like normal people). Anyway, back to my excitement over my Netflix queue, I can't wait to catch up on old friends. I have yet to finish "Extras" and "Absolutely Fabuluous". I think I should take "Trailer Park Boys" off because it will take me ages to finish up that series...there's like 7-8 seasons and two movies. Time to let those Canadians go! Also, I'm actually wondering how entertaining alcoholism or addictions are for me? Not very, much of TV entertainment is focused on addiction and lowlifes, I'm actually starting to tire of both themes, hence grows my fleeting interest in "The Wire", although it is a damn well-done TV series that at least has realism that is intriguing. But as it for happening in my life on a consistent basis, I probably wouldn't want to work with catching criminals or be a drug dealer. Seems like both are dangerous lifestyles. There's almost something voyeuristic about "The Wire", like look at all these people working for nothing and risking their lives...and part of me is relieved that this is not an example of my life. While I experience "It's Always Sunny..." on a more than consistent basis, at least that's funny, although sort of wrong. I'll give you an example, I was on the BART the other day coming back from a beautiful day in Berkeley, and at the Ashby station this older couple gets on. Firstly, the wife goes in a sing-songy voice "can't you read?" to this younger couple sitting in the seats for the elderly and disabled. (I did not mind this so much, although it was pretty annoying to see how she approached them like this.) Then, this guy in a wheelchair with no legs starts riding up and down the aisle in his electric wheelchair asking for money. The lady flips out and says, what you're doing is illegal and starts kicking his chair and yelling at people not to encourage him by giving him money! It was the single most terrible thing I've ever seen, I think that lady's husband was closing his eyes in embarassment because I'm not sure he even saw what she was doing or choose to ignore what she was saying. Anyway, I usually don't see disturbing crap like this in reality, but this was one moment were reality became stranger than fiction, and seriously, this level of awful would be considered hilarious on shows like "It's Always Sunny..." and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" (I so wish I had cable for both series!). Sometimes people's sense of entitlement really gets ahead of them and if they could only see what other's are noticing they'd probably die of shame. I'm sure she's convinced she's going to heaven for all her good deeds and by not "encouraging" someone to exist without no legs. Anyway, I'm really excited about these TV shows, and hopefully will also muster up the interest in catching up with "30 Rock" which has the awesome Tina Fey (girl crush material!) along with the unbeatable Alec Baldwin, who knew this SOB could be so funny. I'm sure he didn't know until he was given the material and just opened his big egotistical douchebag mouth. Oh how I love it!
